The Jekyll Singers

The Jekyll Singers have been performing on Jekyll Island for the last thirty years.  The group was founded in 1988 by four island musicians, Jodie Smith, Bob Bridgewood, Annie Barr and Luella Baine.  They began with 2 to 3 singers from each of the congregations on Jekyll Island.  Performances were held at Faith chapel, Crane Cottage and area nursing homes.  The Jekyll Singers are part of the Jekyll Island Arts Association who generously provide financial support for music and venue costs.

Historically, The Singers perform two concerts a year, a Holiday Concert in early December and a Spring Concert in late March.  These concerts have been held at the Convention Center, Morgan Center and in the Methodist Church all on Jekyll Island.  Currently, the Singers are holding their concerts at the New Convention Center which can house larger audiences of 350 people.

The Jekyll Singers rehearse on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Methodist Church Hall, from just after Labor Day in September, through the Holiday Concert.  Rehearsals resume after the Holidays in early January in order to prepare for the Spring Concert in March.  This year the Singers brought their music to an assisted living center in Brunswick where their music was greatly appreciated.  We look forward to singing a few more off island concerts in the coming years.

The Singers are people that love to sing and come from varied musical backgrounds.  There is always room for more voices!  Please join the Jekyll Art Association and, if you are interested in joining ‘The Singers’ contact Kate Hamer (kwhamer@comcast.net).
