The Merchant of Venice

Many of us have read this play in high school. A close reading of it now will let us bring more enlightened views to this problem play. It is an early Shakespeare comedy and the main plot depicting the attempts of a suitor to win a bride is dominated by a disturbing subplot involving an unusual loan meant to help finance those attempts.
