Goodyear Shop Guidelines

The Association maintains and staffs a gift shop in Goodyear Cottage in the Historic District with the work of members displayed on consignment. The following information is for members who wish to place items in the shop for sale. If additional information is needed, or if you have a question, call Goodyear Cottage at (912)-635-3290.

Guidelines for entering items into Shop inventory (Guidelines may change for special events such as the Festival and Merry Artists Market):

  • Artist must be a JIAA member, current on dues and with number assigned.
  • Every entry must be Artist made, clean, undamaged, seasonally appropriate and shop ready. Final decision on items appropriate to the Shop rests with the Shop Manager.
  • All items are to be entered online and placed in the Goodyear kitchen. The online system assigns you the number to use. Price tags are printed Monday and Thursday and will be placed in your folder.
  • The Shop Committee will place artwork in the shop. Please do not rearrange items in the shop.
  • Business cards, if used, MUST be attached to the entry. Please do not leave stacks of business cards.
  • Artists who place items in the shop are expected to volunteer in some JIAA activity for one appropriate shift each calendar year (January 1st to December 31st).
    • Emeritus members as determined by the Board are excused from volunteer activity.
    • Additionally, a member may do a volunteer shift as a buddy and donate to a family member, friend or other member who is unable to fulfill their obligation.  The shop manager should be informed of this arrangement.

Inventory Management of Entries

Limitations

Member entries are limited to 10 items. Examples:

  • 3 sweaters plus 7 hats equals 10 items in inventory.
  • 10 packages of cards = 10 items in inventory.
  • 6 pottery pieces and 4 prints = 10 items in inventory.
  • Each item must adhere to the Goodyear numbering system.
  • Members may enter a new item when one has sold.
  • Members keep track of their own inventory.
  • Artists set their own prices; the minimum price is $5.00.
  • Members receive 75% of a sold item’s price. Checks are sent monthly.
  • Wall art is limited to three pieces per artist and MUST have a wire hanger. We CANNOT accept saw tooth hangers as our display system does not accommodate them.  In addition, the price needs to be clearly visible to our shoppers without them having to remove the artwork from the wall.  If the price tag cannot be affixed directly to the front of the item then a paper tag, available on the desk in the Goodyear Kitchen, should have the price sticker affixed to it and then the tag be taped to the back of the lower corner on the right hand side facing the art work.  This will allow for consistency in the appearance of the hanging art and will prevent possible damage to the artwork or items displayed on shelves below.
  • Paintings and photographs should not exceed a perimeter of 120 inches.
  • Framed fine art (oils, watercolors, pastels, pen and ink, etc) must be originals.
  • Due to changes in technology, framed fine art prints made by print making or by inkjet printers (formerly referred to as Giclee), are accepted but are not considered original. They must be CLEARLY marked that they are prints and not originals and should be priced accordingly.
  • Due to changes in technology, framed on canvas photographs electronically produced by inkjet printing (formerly referred to as Giclee), may now be entered.
  • Unframed prints of fine art and photography are placed in bins, matted and shrink wrapped. No prints in tubes.
  • It is suggested that all prints, including photography, be identified as either a limited edition or an unlimited edition for the benefit of the purchaser. A limited edition is signed and numbered in this way: number of the print/total number in edition (1/45), title, artist. An unlimited edition may be left unsigned or signed in this way: UL, title, artist.
  • An item may be in the Shop for a maximum of six months or at the manager’s discretion. Please monitor your inventory and rotate items every six months. All inventory must be displayed. There is no provision for storage at Goodyear.

The shop manager reserves the right to final determination for shop entries.

The JIAA is not held responsible for security of items. Missing, broken, or miss-marked items are not the responsibility of the Jekyll Island Arts Association. Any items not picked up when requested will become the property of JIAA and will be used for fundraising for JIAA and other island organizations.
