Arts Festival ~ Juried Art

Each year a panel consisting usually of area professional artists is asked to judge festival entries that members think represent the very best examples of their work. Awards are made in all the main disciplines with First Place, Second Place, Third Place and Honorable Mention Ribbons being awarded. It is understood that all entries both Juried and in the festival Shop are available for purchase.

Registration for the JIAA Arts Festival ~ Juried Art

  • All items must be registered online. ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. REGISTRATION CLOSES at noon, February 26th.
  • Labels are printed Monday and Thursday mornings in February and will be placed in the artist's shop folder. The FINAL day for printing tags will be February 26th. 
  • On-site delivery of art is Saturday March 1st from Noon until 4:00pm and Sunday, March 2nd between 9:00am and Noon.  Please come to Goodyear Cottage during one of those times to deliver your art.
  • Sneak Peek will be Thursday, March 6th, time to be announced later.
  • Ribbon winning art items and all other juried artwork submissions will remain in Goodyear Cottage until March 28th, unless sold or removed by the artist.

Festival Entries will be Accepted in 8 Categories

Judges have the freedom to decide how many ribbons they will award without regard to Main Category or Sub-Category.

All work is entered at the artist’s risk. JIAA cannot assume responsibility for loss or 
damage during the festival.  All due care will be taken in handling artwork.

Juried artwork will be photographed and cataloged for inventory purposes. Photos of ribbon winning artwork may be displayed on the JIAA website.

Festival Categories and Sub-Categories

PaintingSub-categories: Watercolor, acrylic, oil, encaustic, ink brush-painting, pastels, mixed media (obvious combination of multiple materials creating a collage effect rather than one medium.)

  • A maximum of 3 entries.
  • No size restrictions except large items must be able to be carried by one person.
  • Paintings must be ready to hang, with wire attached, or they will be rejected for entry. (No saw tooth hangers will be accepted because our hanging system will not accommodate them.) Please wrap the wire ends with tape to protect the people handling the art and also the walls.
  • No unframed canvases unless sides are finished and have no staples showing.
  • No Glecee prints of paintings.
  • No wet paint or varnish

DrawingSub-categories: Charcoal, pencil, colored pencils, pen and ink, prints (wood cut, linoleum-cut, etc.) Zentangle framed.

  • A maximum of 3 entries.
  • No size restrictions except large items must be able to be carried by one person.
  • Drawings must be ready to hang, with wire attached, or they will be rejected for entry. (No saw tooth hangers will be accepted.)
  • Please wrap the wire ends with tape to protect the people handling the art and also the walls.
  • No unframed artwork in the drawing category.
  • Original artwork only. No prints other than those listed above.

PhotographySub-categories: Nature, Landscape, and Open. Open includes but is not limited to: Architectural, People, Macro, Alternative (extensively manipulated), and Astro.

  • A maximum of 3 photos.
  • No size restrictions except large items must be able to be carried by one person.
  • Photos must be ready to hang, with wire attached, or they will be rejected for entry. (No saw tooth hangers will be accepted because our hanging system will not accommodate them.) Please wrap the wire ends with tape to protect the people handling the art and also the walls.

Fiber Arts:   NOTE changes for 2025 – Weaving and Needle Arts are now Categories.

  • A maximum of 4 total entries in any combination of Fiber Arts categories.

Fiber Arts Sub-categories: Fashion and Fabric accessory design, Art Quilting, Quilting-Hand, Quilting-Machine, Mixed-Media Fiber

  • Quilts have no size restrictions, but will be folded for display

FA-Weaving Sub-categories: Rigid Heddle, 4 Shaft, 8 Shaft, Tapestry, Other

FA-Needle Arts Sub-Categories: Cross Stitch, Embroidery, Felting, Knitting-Crocheting, Hooking, Needlepoint, Needle Art Other 

PotterySub-categories: Wheel-thrown, Hand-built, Raku 

  • A maximum of 6 pieces with limit of 3 in any one subcategory.
  • Pottery must have a smooth finish on the bottom and have protective pads attached.

Sculpture: Includes carving, modeling, casting, and/or assembling into a 3D form.

  • A maximum total of three entries.
  • Large items, (weight and size) must be able to be carried by one person.

Heritage Arts:   Sub-categories: Basketry, Woodworking, Metal-work

  • A maximum total of 4 entries
  • Large items must be able to be carried by one person.
  • Metal-work and woodworking pieces must be able to be carried by one person.

Handmade Arts:   Sub-categories: Jewelry, Beading, Shell-craft, Glass Craft, Paper Craft, three-dimensional items decorated with Zentangle.

  • A maximum of 4 total entries
